We the bloggers of UNC College Perspective believe that in order to form a more perfect blog, you the reader have the right to be an informed critic. Sounds familiar huh? Well in order for you to be able to better recognize that our ideas are supported by the ideas, research, and hard work of other more established authors (famous even!), we feel that we must provide the necessary and proper citations, as established by our blog, for you. Our citations are here to give credit to the brilliant authors from whom we've borrowed facts and ideas, and to also show that we research what we're blogging about beforehand, and we're not just going to go on a ranting rampage unless we've already done the essential research. Our blog will have a unique citation style that will not follow the traditional guidelines, because let's face it who cares if there's a period following the web address or not? As such, maybe a couple of examples using an online journal, book, and a picture will help to better understand our use of citation:
- Online journal: Author, Title, Name of Journal, Date of Publication, Volume Number. Issue Number, web address
Seal, Nuananong, Seal, John, Eating Patterns of the Rural Families of Overweight Preschool Children: A Pilot Study, Journal of Education and Human Development, 2009, 3.1, http://www.scientificjournals.org/journals2009/articles/1436.pdf
Note: in this example for only the year of publication was provided, but month and day will also be used. Eg. November 11 2009
- Book: Author, Title, Date of Publication, Page Numbers
Trollope, Anthony, The Tireless Traveler: Twenty Letters to the Liverpool Mercury, 1978, 17-20
- Picture: Photographer(Artist), web address
Bauere, Anete, http://www.flickr.com/photos/basic-energy/3842939570/
We are implementing this citation style because we want to make it as easy as possible for you to follow our arguments and research on your own with encountering any difficulty. Therefore, we will be placing our citations at the bottom, instead of embedding them in the text as hyperlinks to make our posts easier to read. We've only shown the three examples of what we expect we will be encountering the most on this blog; however, if we come across other types of useful media you can be guaranteed you'll at least receive the author and where to find it.
And in case you didn't notice:
