Let's Get To Know Each Other Better AKA Introductions

The goal of our blog is to give our readers an idea of what college life will be like from the perspective of new and current students. Our group is composed of sophomores and first-years (not freshmen, weird huh?) and we feel qualified to give our audience a relevant and true perspective about college life right now, not twenty or more years ago like our parents, and not even 2-3 years ago like our siblings. We are also here to inform about interesting issues (hopefully interesting!) in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities, and as a result some of our articles will go beyond the ordinary concerns about classes, choosing a major, or adjusting to college life, and will force our audience to consider issues outside of their immediate interests and how these issues relate to them. Rest assured, however, that the ordinary concerns will be discussed as well, after all we're all college students and have all had these concerns at one point or another.

I am a sophomore here at UNC from Charlotte, NC. While I plan to one day become an attorney, I am majoring in political science and public policy. I also hope to someday become President, yes I dream big. Basketball is a passion of mine and during season you will find me in front of the television supporting the LA Lakers. The quickest way to get in a fight with me is to insult Kobe Bryant; I will not date a Celtics fan. I also enjoy cooking and traveling and have a love for all things French. In my spare time I am either doing some sort of sport or relaxing. I play guitar and enjoy listening to music. Aerosmith and Taylor Swift are the most played artists on my iPod.

My name is Ashley and I am currently a sophomore student pursuing a degree in Anthropology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. I grew up and went to high school in a small town called Havelock, which is on the east coast of North Carolina. As a college student I value any sleep I can get and snacks especially popcorn, but when I actually have free time I'm interested in movies, both new and old, crocheting over-sized, abnormally shaped hats, and occasionally volunteering with Helping Paws through the Campus Y. I have a love of animals and miss them while I'm here at Carolina, so I have a Betta fish on campus who is currently nicknamed Blue Fish after Dr. Seuss’ One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I'd like to think I’m pretty chill and I hope it will reflect in some of my posts.

Hello. Gina Wall here. I am a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill and am currently majoring in biology. I am from Goldsboro, NC. I am also half Puerto Rican. I am just one of several intelligent and informed people who will be writing to you. I guess I’ll tell you some random facts about myself. First of all, I have really long curly hair. I am going to have to say it is my favorite feature. I am also extremely short. Being short is not a bad thing by the way. Another thing is that I can’t talk without using my hands so my hands are most likely all over the place right now. Lastly, I love biology, reading, and listening to music.

My name is Loraine and I’m a sophomore here at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My major is Psychology but I’m in love with Biology. I’m involved in the Carolina First, MAPS, and HOSA organization. I was born in Liberia, West Africa but I’ve lived in the United States for about eleven years. I have three sisters and I’m the oldest child of my parents.

Some interesting facts about me are that I fear and hate snakes among other things; I think they’re the most disgusting and grotesque animals in the world. When I was younger, I used to eat whole raw onions however, now I can’t stand the smell or sight of them. I dislike public speaking because I get nervous and I usually don’t know what to do with my hands when I’m talking. I love to cook and eat; my favorite foods are chicken and rice. I have no athletic abilities but I do sing. I’m double jointed in the arm and my favorite place to hang out is my room because I can relax and unwind there.

My name is Michael Tobben and I am a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill. I have yet to choose my major. I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. I have 2 older brothers, John and Daniel, and a dog named Luke. Growing up, I have always enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, rafting, fishing, and playing sports. I love nature and wildlife, and as a kid I was always catching snakes and lizards. However, despite my willingness to catch snakes and other animals as a child, I have a morbid fear of cockroaches. Despite how much I find animals to be interesting, I am not a vegetarian. My favorite foods are steak, salmon, and Chipotle burritos. In high school, I played varsity tennis and mountain biked recreationally. My favorite things to read are Sports Illustrated, Popular Science, and Calvin and Hobbes. My favorite sports to watch are NFL football, college basketball, and professional tennis. I frequently talk in my sleep.
